Everyone of us has at least one moment in life where we have
no option but to take some sort of plunge into the unknown. If we’re lucky, we’ve someone to come with us.
Here the car is a metaphor for our bodies, the vessel that carries us through
life, and the red rear lights imply the threat of danger and the point of
no return. 2013 saw the release of a
wonderful horror movie In Fear, in
which nothing of the implicit terror was revealed to the viewer until the final
reels, the audience kept in the dark; indeed the image of a car’s rear lights is veritably cinematic, and I was also thinking
of David Lynch’s Lost Highway when
making this cartoon.
